"We have to clean the river because the wildlife that live there can't."
Recent MRRI News
MRRI Has been very busy this Spring and Summer with numerous projects. Volunteers have been monitoring several boat launch sites weekly and keeping them clean.
MRRI just completed the project at mile 828. We removed 26.3 tons of washed up debris, abandoned vehicles and other "junk".
Our next project is the removal of the 2 abandoned boats at the head of Spring Lake.
On June 3rd we worked with the DNR in an educational project in Lake City that included a presentation of river issues and information. Approximately 125 people attended and a cleanup of Hok-Si-La Park followed that included 23 Boy Scouts and 5 adults.
On June 14th we assisted with the 16th Annual DNR/Padelford Great Mississippi Riverboat Cleanup by providing water transportation to various areas. There were about 80 volunteers contributing to this effort which was a huge success.
Future Projects include:
• Removal of 2 abandoned boats at the head of Spring Lake
• Cleanup of 2 islands close to the Riverside Power Plant in Minneapolis
• Several islands in Pool 2 (St. Paul to Hastings)
• Shorelines in Pool 1 (Minneapolis to St. Paul)
