"We have to clean the river because the wildlife that live there can't."
How do we expect to clean the roughly 80 miles of Mississippi River shoreline from the Twin Cities to Lake Pepin?
• Sound Planning: We will target specific areas to focus our efforts through aerial and river-based surveillance.
• The Right Equipment: Not only will Captain Bob be using Maggie to shuttle people to the cleanups, we also have access to a variety of heavy equipment thanks to our generous supporters.
• Community Involvement: MRRI will continually be looking for help from local community groups and civic organizations to assist in caring for this great river.
• The Senior Army of the River Clean Up Project: This group of senior citizens, led by Captain Bob, are willing leaders in the fight to clean the river.
• MN Department of Natural Resources Adopt-a-River Program: MRRI will partner with the Adopt-a-River program to give everyone leaving from the Red Wing Marina Adopt-a-River trash bags. Hopefully these bags will remind those people to leave the section of the river they visit even better than they found it.
• Proper Funding: To properly fund such an ambitious project will, of course, take significant funding. MRRI is currently looking for anyone interested in giving to help such a worthwhile cause. The larger the contributions, the closer we will get to reaching our goals.
